Q4. How did you use new media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

Web 2.0 is the term used to describe a second generation of the world wide web that is focused on the ability for people to collaborate and share information online. Examples of Web 2.0 include social networking sites, blogs, video sharing sites, hosted services and web applications. Due to the advancing of technology, it has become incredibly easy for people to become a part of the internet allowing them to become the producers as well as the consumers.

Q3. What have you learnt from your audience feedback?

When producing an advertisement campaign for a film, gaining audience feedback is a crucial part of the evaluation process. It allows us to take on board the constructive criticism and apply it to our work. This benefits our work making the final outcome more professional and more suited to our audience. It is important to make sure that the feedback is gathered as soon as possible. This is so the adaptions and corrections can be made before fully releasing them. Advertising campaigns will usually include promotions and publicity. Promotion is the partnership with other companies and production to help promote the film with gaining a promotional offer. This can include competitions which allows you to win tickets to see a preview special of the film.

Advertising is a major part of a media product. It helps reach out to the primary target audience as well as attracting a secondary audience. Before the film is released, the advertising for it is really pushed to tease the audience and to hype up the film so that it is known before it is even released. The more people talk about it, the more it spreads. This means that if the film is advertised correctly it should make good money. Publicity is a component of promotion and marketing. Such as advertising actors and directors from the product in things like TV interviews and editorial coverage, these can sometimes be more effective than pre-paid advertising. An example of a film that done a large amount of market research and publicity would be 'The Woman in Black'. This films primary audience was teenagers and young adults and to reach out to them they used various advertising methods. The film had a range of different posters, from before the release and after the release. As well as both a teaser trailer and a full length trailer. The film was plastered all over social networking sites to reach out to the teenagers and young adults that they were targeting. Publicity was also a major part of the marketing plan for 'The Woman in Black'. As Daniel Radcliffe is mostly known for playing the role of Harry Potter, they used this in their favor to attract as many people as possible including Harry Potter fans. Daniel Radcliffe also conducted many TV interviews to again expand the target audience for the film, which was in fact successful.

When planning our trailer as a group we decided that the demographics of our target audience would be mainstream teenagers and young adults of both genders. However we wanted to find out what our target audience would be looking for in a horror film. To carry out this investigation we created an online survey on SurveyMonkey to see what forms and conventions our audience would like to see. As well as having the survey online we also printed some out and handed them around college, we are able to do this as pupils at our college are suited to our target audience. After we had produced a draft of our trailer, we had a class screening of our trailers. After each individual trailer was watched, each student wrote down a positive comment and an improvement that could be made. After collecting all of the improvements that could have been made we then worked back into the trailer to correct them. Some of the common improvements that were said in the feedback was that there was a lack of audio, needed more of a pace during the end, lighting was too dark in areas, no sound effects where needed e.g the moving chair and finally the dialogue was lost at the beginning. We took all of this constructive criticism and adapted it were we could. The common positive responses that we got were things such as a range in different shot types, well chosen location, good story line and a great jump scare at the end. Having feedback before finalizing our trailer was incredibly helpful and made a huge difference to the quality of our trailer.

Below I have listed our draft copy of the Mr.Creek trailer, the feedback video, the feedback sheets and the final trailer.
